Welcome to Maggie’s Place...
We thought that we had turned the corner from our very hot, humid and dry Summer into Autumn.
We have had 2 useful days’ rain lately which have brought up the Belladonna (or Easter) Lillies.
We have the first lamb to be born to our neighbours’ sheep (the very same sheep who are beneficiaries of the leftovers from Maggie’s Place).
But … it’s a harsh world out there, especially for a lamb. The second day after Lammie was born, my husband had to repeatedly chase away crows trying to peck the lamb’s eyes out (are crows charming – not). AND, Mark had to chase away a fox which was circling Lammie at the same time.

Maggie’s Place is Locavore Country:
Eat in Season
Buy from the Region
Eat Fresh.
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT…

The ACCC, Australia’s competition regulator, is currently investigating the 2 big supermarkets. The Australian Financial Review (23/24 Feb. 2013) tells us that the ACCC has asked THOSE 2 to explain how they negotiate prices with suppliers and why they are replacing branded groceries with their own-house labelled produce.
The AFR continues: they are co-operating with the ACCC “to ward off prosecutions for misuse of market power and unconscionable conduct”.
These 2 supermarkets are very canny – I could use a more forceful description. One of the ‘feel good’ methods Coles is using is to feature their suppliers in mushy advertorials and the like, saying how good it is to do business with Coles.
They are manipulating people’s attitudes by bombarding the media – who will print it - with all this mush.
These producers aren’t going to bite the hand that feeds them, are they? They probably have kids to feed and clothe and educate and mortgages…
